Coming Events

IMMINENT CREEKSIDE. “Chocolate As Aphrodisiac” is subject to be treated (tastefully, we trust) today(Saturday, 2/11) at Beattie-Powers House, from 2 pm., by Janeen Sarlin, a new GreeneLander who is the author of, among other works, Fifty Ways to Feed Your Lover. Demonstrations—of, presumably, amorously efficacious dishes—will be given, with the results disseminated. If you can find Prospect Avenue in Catskill, you can find Beattie-Powers House. Open to all. Bring a $10+ donation. (943-4764) Coinciding with that treat will be a writers’ salon at the Arts Council building, 398 Main Street, from 2 pm, with Jeanne Heiberg reading from her novel Honey, A Life in Black and White. Later in the afternoon, Main Street will rock with art+wine+nibbles. At the M Gallery (350 Main; 943-0380), the new show is “Ain’t Love Grand,” a collection of original drawings and paintings from romance novels and turn-of-century magazines. Open, a few doors up the street, at #360, will be Cooper & Co., where visitors can learn about the subtleties of conserving (and not over-‘restoring’) classic furniture. At Gallery 384, meanwhile, visitors to “The Image Café” will be served a smorgasbord of short Indie films plus an inter-active “video in the round” during 4-8 pm. Farther up the street, at number 402, visitors can experience “Fetish,” a new collection of assemblages & objects & drawings & sculptures. On the way to that opening, however, visitors will be enticed by still more eye candy, as well as hospitality, offered by the neighboring Harolds (Hanson and Gondrez) in the adjacent shops Verso (20th century objects) and Dream (East Asian furniture. If all that Main Streeting is not enough, take in a movie at the Community Theater. The current choices are the new “Pink Panther” and “When a Stranger Calls.” IMMINENT MOUNTAINWARD. “Before Night Falls” is title of new show, featuring works of Ragallah Rourke and John Greene, from 5 pm. tomorrow at Windham Fine Arts gallery, 5380 Main Street, Windham. In Hunter, both of the Mountain Foundation’s movies this weekend are Oscar material: “Brokeback Mountain” (from 7:30 pm. tonight, Saturday and Sunday, and 2:30 on Sunday), and “Munich” (from 8 pm. F-S-S and 3 pm. Sunday). HOT COLE. “Have you prepared your application for next year?” Rep. John E. Sweeney voiced that question yesterday (2/9) in Catskill at Cedar Grove, where Thomas Cole, founder of the Hudson River school of landscape painting, had lived and worked 150 years ago. Sweeney addressed the question most immediately to Betsy Jacks, who is executive director of the volunteers’ organization--part of the Greene County Historical Society--that maintains the Thomas Cole National Historic Site. He voiced it on the occasion of celebrating the allocation of $745,000 of Federal funds, for fiscal year 2005-06, for improving Cedar Grove’s accessibility and infrastructure. Meanwhile, in his speech the Clifton Park-based Republican paid tribute to Cole for “capturing” on canvas “the awe-inspiring landscapes this region has to offer,” thereby making “cultural contributions” that are “immeasurable.” By means of that question to Ms Jacks, Congressman Sweeney signaled readiness to bring home another substantial appropriation in fiscal 2007. And that’s just a bit of the news about Cedar Grove. In addition: *The Salon that was scheduled for this Sunday, with GreeneLand Historian Ray Beecher expatiating on “The Wintry Picturesque,” has been canceled, in anticipation of too-wintry conditions, namely, a snowstorm. **!An original Cole painting, “Prometheus,” fully (and laboriously) restored, will soon be hanging in the house, thanks to a permanent-loan deal with the board of Catskill Public Library. (Value of that painting? Don’t think about it). **Due to open this spring is an ambitious exhibition of paintings by one of Cole’s best known followers, Jasper Cropsey. **!Cole’s own guitar, portrayed in his painting “The Pic-Nic,” will soon be on show, forever, at Cedar Grove. **!And Cole’s original paint brushes, which are currently on display at the Dorsky Museum in New Paltz, will be coming home. OF CONFLICT OF INTEREST. When village, town, school district and other governing boards make decisions about selection and compensation of employees, what should members do when the employees in question are close relatives or friends? Should they excuse themselves from participating in the decisions? The latter question is timely for, among others, the Athens Town Board. In strictly legal terms, board members are not obliged to stand apart. But legal advisers at the New York Conference of Mayors also urge local elected officials to avoid conflict-of-interest situations and decisions that could give an appearance of impropriety CLOSING: upper grades at St Patrick’s Academy. After this June, Grade 7 and Grade 8 schooling will no longer be offered there. Principal Rita Kunkel ascribes the decision to shrinkage of enrollments. In consequence, 23 students who otherwise would have gone up a grade must find other schools. In addition, Grade 6 at St Pat’s will go into hiatus for a year, since there are presently too few students in Grade 5. But Grade 6 will be restored starting in 2007-08. FIRE BLOGGERS. How come all those hitchhikers who key in to Seeing Greene have not blogged about the fund-raising breakfast on Sunday, (Jan. 29th) that raised $2500 for medical expenses of brother fireman John Holt Jr? Gee gosh golly, fellers, one could infer from that event that the fraternal spirit isn’t dead after all. VILLAGE ELECTIONS will take place on March 28 in GreeneLand. At the present time, it looks as if the habitually ruling Republicans in Catskill won’t field a single candidate. Peter Markou did seek and receive G.O.P. endorsement, but then, citing health problems, withdrew. Paul Rosenblatt, a registered Republican and former village trustee, did not solicit his party’s endorsement but is currently circulating petitions so as to qualify as an independent candidate; and he may yet be adopted, we hear, by the Republicans. Evan Ulscht, a registered Democrat, former Village Trustee and Town Board candidate in 2005, solicited Republican endorsement ahead of the caucus, but his name was not put forward at the caucus. At the Democrats’ caucus (Feb. 1), the two incumbent trustees whose terms are expiring sought endorsement, and received it. They are Forest Cotten and Jim Chewens. Mr Cotten is a registered and active Democrat. Mr Chewens is a registered Republican; but in 2003 he stood as an independent and won. Mr Ulscht attended the Democrats' caucus but did not avow an interest in running; had he done so, we understand, he would have been given the nod. Only afterward did he announce a bid to run as an independent. Thus, if he persists and meets the filing requirements, he will be opposing the candidates endorsed by his erstwhile co-partisans. About Mr Chewens’s dealings with the Republican caucus, we’ve heard at least three stories: i) he did not seek Republican endorsement, because he knew it would have been refused, since he had ‘broken ranks’ before, standing as an independent (and winning) after--so They say—pledging to back the Republican slate. ii) He was approached by local Republican heavyweights with a view to standing for re-election on the G.O.P. line, but declined. iii) He was offered Republican Party support IF he would (a) repudiate the current Village President, Vincent Seeley (a Republican) and would (b) promise to support Mr Markou’s elevation (as a presumably victorious candidate for trustee) for Village President. He refused those terms.

Rumor has it that Evan Ulscht will attempt to run for Village of Catskill Trustee on an idependent line. His overtures to run as a Republican were rejected. He is a person without a party right at the moment. Will he fare better than his last race where he was the low vote getter in the Town Elections? I hope that he will tell us where he stands on the issues. Does he believe that the process of consolidating the fire companies should be completed? Does he believe that the former fire companies that no longer fight fires should have tax payer money and donations in their bank accounts? Does he believe that the fire protection contract with the Town should be renewed only if the agreement is advantageous to the village tax payers? Should there be reassement? Should there be a fire district? Will he support getting an opinion from the state about the consolidation/money issues raised in this blog?

Jimmy Chewins, Forrest Cotten and Paul Rosenblatt should answer these questions as well.

Help us make an informed choice.

Dick this is OT but still worth airing out here, at least I think.

Is there a special reason anybody can give as to why we pay more for gas in Catskill? I work in Coxsackie and it's been in the $2.45.9/$2.47.9 range since last Saturday. Went to Hudson yesterday and as always cheaper there too, about the same. Last time I got in Catskill was Weds at Extra Mart by the bridge approach and it was $2.58.9 and the Mobil at the intersection of 23 and 385 was $2.59.9. Greene County always has the highest gas prices in the area it seems.

lack of competition. A monopoly since most of the catskill Gas stations are owned operated by the same people?

Anonymous said...

Maybe the trustee candidates might e-mail Dick their answers to the questions in the form of a guest spot like vinny did.

Anonymous said...

Mobil is usually 2 cents higher because of the speed pass and mobil credit cards. One station outside of Albany toward Ravena yesterday was 2.39, across the street mobil was 2.45, by t/way exit at Coxsackie 2.49.

As long as we drive without conserving, they will continue to juggle the price. they know they have us over a barrel.

I agree with the last few comments that we need to find out if fire companies that were funded by tax dollars and donations can keep the money when they no longer fight fires.

The name Hose 1 is a name of shame. It is embarrasing to have that name visible anywhere near the firehouse and it smells to high hell like last weeks fish sitting in the sahara desert.

Name association

Fire fighter = serve the public

Catskill Hose company #1, inc. =

Start new town company
Greed
selfish

Is it a name you really want to keep alive? It is now associated with everything bad. You lost your reputation listening to a certain few and the Hose 1 reputation has been destroyed throughout the entire county.

IF things happened elsewhere like things are done in Catskill:

The national Cancer foundation has decided to halt all cancer related research and operations. The NCF which sought donations and government grants for research will remain incorporated eventhough they have stopped all cancer related activities. A spokesmen for the NCF stated: Although we received donations and government money because people expected that we would use that money in the fight against cancer, we will remain incorporated and use that money as we wish. "we earned it and it is our money".

This sounds ridiculous doesn't it? Does this sound right?

BUT THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING IN CATSKILL BECAUSE THESE NON-FIREFIGHTING FIRE COMPANIES ARE DOING THIS EXACT THING. they got donations and tax money with the expectation that the money would be used by an active fire company to support fire fighting.

It is wrong for Hose 1 and the other companies to have money in the bank.

Before I address the questions that were posted here this evening, I'd like to correct Dick's original post - being out of town, it is more than likely he got erroneous information.

1.) I did not attend the Democratic caucus, as I was not supporting either candidate. Minutes taken at that caucus will reflect this.
2.) I sought the Republican endorsement on 2/2/06, after Peter Markou dropped - some three weeks after the Democratic election planning meeting. Since I started my petition drive January 24, I treated that endorsement as the long shot that it was.

I'll refrain from further comment on anyone's character or job performance, except to say that I'm not pleased with the current state of affairs. Obviously, I'm a man without a party, and I have to say it feels better than it has in a long time. As for election results, I could lose, and if that happens, life goes on. Enough said.

Moving on to the (very good) questions that were brought to my attention this evening, your answers follow. I would remind those who agree or disagree that I do stand behind my answers (yes, even after being elected), so you can make your decisions based on these answers knowing that they represent my agenda. Here goes:

1.) I think the consolidation NEEDS to be completed. One of the significant mistakes I feel I made as a trustee/president (beyond occasionally being much too harsh) was not pushing a judicial dissolution of all three companies; I thought that by encouraging voluntary dissolution, the individual companies would have time to settle their affairs and help take the new company forward. Now, we're stuck with three shell companies that still have money (illegal, I think, because they no longer truly have not-for-profit status), and we need to move past the truck lettering issues and other such items. What would be ideal is for all three companies to submit voluntary dissolutions, but it seems that we're past that. On an related note, I would like to see ETA 3-11 voluntarily signed over to the Village by Hose 1, another gesture that I think would make a world of difference in finishing the consolidation. Call me a dreamer...

2.) Regarding the fire protection contract, I think that the Village should negotiate a short (1-2 year) contract that reflects our increased expenses (increased fuel, maintenance, etc.), and I don't think we should back down unless we receive an agreement that significantly exceeds the current $118,500. With that said, I would also like to see a task force established during this time to research the option of a Village/Town fire protection district. This way, if we find advantages to an FPD, we're not bound to a long contract.

I will not vote for any fire protection district, however, that doesn't give the taxpayers ultimate say - by vote - on their fire tax/fire budget. It's hard enough to hold the line on taxes without adding another uncontrolled entity, and Village residents need to keep the power over their taxes that they currently enjoy with the appropriations process.

3.) On reassessment: I support it because we are in violation of state guidelines, that require a re-eval every three years. However, I think our Boards - Town and Village - owe it to us to lower our tax rate in direct proportion to the increases in valuation, so that we only feel a normal yearly budget increase (3-5%) after the valuation. Other communities have used reevaluation as a tool to financially rape the populace; we would be stupid to do the same. One thing we have to remember is that this community is for everyone, and driving out the seniors and the struggling because they can't afford their homes anymore isn't progress. It's persecution.

4.) I would emphatically support obtaining opinions from the State, both for the money issues raised here and for other ethics issues that have been discussed in this forum. What we need to remember is that these agencies only issue opinions - when push comes to shove, there may not be existing law with enough teeth to bring things to the right conclusion. Nonetheless, the fact remains that it will be exceptionally hard to move forward if we don't figure out a way to put the baggage to bed.

I'll be happy to answer any questions posed in the same fashion as the initial post, in this forum or in person. Thanks for the opportunity to respond.

Chewens has abused his power and his fellow trustees have allowed him to get away with it.

The problem with the current board is that they knowingly allowed the transgressions against the fire department to continue with out stopping them.

Many of the problems brought out to the public here were previously known to the trustees but they refused to take a stand and support what was right!

Basically they were all willing to take the easy way out! Admit nothing, say nothing, address nothing especially if it was considered controlversial.

At least until we started to address Hose 1's open and obvious use of this blog to attack former trustees. Hose 1 die hards hell bent on destroying the consolidation process and being the only fire company left. Remember their motto "Survival of the Fittest". They continued to attack until we started exposing their intent.

I remember Hose 1 meeting with Evan when they threw 100% backing behind his election. Where'd it get Evan? Turn one decision against them and they bit you like a rattle snake! The problem is its hard to forget who you were knowingly in bed with.

The biggest point I want to make is how cover ups in Catskill are the rule of the land. Personal protection and gain by abusing ones power of authority is more important than doing what is morally right.

This brings us back to the Trustees. Why are they not screaming out to do whats right?

And more importantly do something to correct the problem instead of intentionally stalling?

Why hasn't Trustee Chewens been removed from his position of Fire Commissioner?

How is is Chewens investigation with the Chewens Drunk Fest going!

It is 6:55 a.m. on Sunday, February 12. As in past storm days, our snow removal trucks are hard at work. My compliments. It was an easy drive. I used to live in Hudson, supposedly much richer than Catskill. However, there is no comparison. Hudson can be snowbound for days, and our village is accessible. While we seem to have a great deal of rancor in Catskill, principally about fire safety .. we do live in a good place. It is a quiet, beautiful morning in our village. We can work out our problems.
Harold M. Hanson, resident
PS: My best wishes to Peter Markou, and his (and his wife's) unquestioned commitment to seeing Catskill prosper.

I'm not a big fan of those opposed to the anonymous nature of this blog because the safest way to seek change, without them attacking you, is to do it behind a curtin.

Evan has told us what he proposes to do and I think that he deserves some consideration.

Anonymous said...

The made up example of the National Cancer foundation makes a good point about how wrong it is for the old companies to keep money.

The first step, Evan, is to get an opinion from the state. If the state says it is wrong then the village board must do something. If the state says it is ok then that is another story.

If "mothing is wrong" then no body should oppose getting an opinion.

Thanks to the night owls for raising some good points and thanks to Evan for saying where you stand on the issues.

Well, as expected, I came under fire by some after responding - not for answering your questions, but for supporting Hose 1 in a 4-year-old election and quitting committees.

While I'm not going to bother with the Hose 1 thing - and yes, I did support them before the consolidation, they were the only company to invite me to speak to them, offer any feedback, or take any interest whatsoever in my running in 2002 - I do think the post about committees deserves a response. If that poster is a former member of the CFD - one who quit over consolidation - they know exactly why I did what I did. A lack of forward momentum, a frustration with not being heard, dissatisfaction with the current administration, and finally, a desire to concentrate their efforts on something else that would bring them some satisfaction - these are all the same reasons I quit those committees. I am not, in any way, apologetic - I offered nearly 24x7 service to this village for over three years, and I finally couldn't do it anymore. Ask your DPW employees, police officers, even former trustees - it was not uncommon for me to show up at job sites or the PD at 2 AM, weekends, holidays, etc. If you take the job seriously, it's what you do. Like most of the fire volunteers here, I put aside my family and business commitments to get involved, and did so happily and without regret. I've given more of my time and energy to this place than a lot of our lifelong residents do, and when I choose to leave that all behind and focus on something that I think will help move the community forward, looking for forgiveness or permission isn't something I need to do. If you feel that passionately about it, take my place on those committees, and help take us forward.

Actually, what I had hoped to address here was an idea I had last night after writing the first post, that I think might correct current and future ethics issues in the Village, across all depts. and employees:

Village of Catskill Ethics Commission

- 4 taxpayers, drawn by lottery from names submitted to avoid conflicts of interest;
- 2 trustees, assigned by the village president, and;
- The chief of police or one of his designees.

Taxpayers would retain a voting majority on this committee, so action on items would be assured, but it would give all of us a great sounding board to resolve issues, seek state opinions, and find closure. Trustees could turn to the Commission for questions regarding employee decisions (including their own), conflicts of interest in appointments or resolutions, etc. Meetings would be called in an ad hoc fashion - that is, as needed.

I'm kind of hoping the current Board steals this idea, because something like this is long overdue, at least in my opinion. Your thoughts?

In closing - thank you for those who replied in logical fashion, either to support or question my post.

5:11, you raise two good points.

1.) "If nothing is wrong, no one should oppose an opinion." Honestly, as I noted before, I think a violation does exist...but even if it doesn't, why hold on to the money? You can't give it to the membership...about the only thing you CAN do with it is funnel it back into fire protection. As far as I can see, this means donating it to the new company. Now, what the old companies could do is create a joint scholarship fund, from the CFC, in their names - and then either create three funds (Hose 1, Hose 2, Hose 5) or one fund (Hose 1, 2 & 5 Memorial Scholarship Fund). They keep their legacy alive, someone in the community gets a helping hand with college, and with the money gone, the corporations are disbanded, so consolidation moves forward.

2.) "If there is something wrong, the Board must do something." You're absolutely right. When the points about the money were first raised, the Board - most of whom read this blog, whether they admit it or not - should have taken the initiative to contact the village attorney to get an interpretation of not-for-profit law. They may have already done this, in fairness.

In one more response to 9:03, just an FYI - I have never been, and will never be, a "Black Booted Storm Trooper." Whatever else you can say about me - and you can say anything you want, it's your right - I was always accessible to anyone who wanted to discuss issues, and a lot of times, I changed course to reflect the wishes of the public. I'll tell you what, though - just to prove it, why don't you come out and campaign with me? Get your signatures, we'll run together, and then you'll KNOW how I do things.

First of all, Evan. You dont have to be apologetic, remorseful would be more accurate.

Your failure to hold up the banner of integrity, honesty and morales. Its not far fetched, just hard to obtain and hold. I personnally am glad that your jumping back into the competition. Just find out the facts before you initiate your attack!

Some comments on your ethics committee. If your going to have a representative from any department then there needs to be a reresentative from every department present.

Why should the highway or the water department be short changed on the commitee?

Second, knowing that we have suffered so many ethics challenges lately in the village board, the Catskill Police Department, and the Catskill Fire Department. I wonder if its even a good idea to allow any employee to sit in on it at all. Its almost like opening the gate to the chicken coop to allow the fox in.

How about a review committee to over see the expenditure of funds exceeding a certain amount. I'm seriously wondering just how legal and forthrite the Chief and Fire Commissioner have been concerning the purchase of the Heavy Rescue. The amount spent versus the need and I'm especially concerned if a local Palenville company was penalized or discriminated against the purchasing process of that truck.

The black booted shock troops are in reference to the unethical use of law enforcement troops to gain political advantage, bully pulpit, threats, intimidation, harassment, etc in support of certan trustees abuse of power.
Back to ethics and abuse of power problems.

Sometimes you put all your eggs in one basket and take a gamble. Hose 1 ganbled their reputation in the community and lost. When they tried to make a deal with the Town to start a district company because the village was going to stop letting all the contract money go in their bank account, they showed that money and power was more important to them. They would have taken manpower (and equipment) out of the village putting village residents at risk over money in the bank. That move destroyed the Hose 1 reputation and name in the community. They lost because the Town wouldn't start a district company. They gambled their reputation and lost and now the Hose 1 name is dirt and when people hear the Hose 1 name they think "the fire company who put money in the bank ahead of fire safety in the village.

It is not about supporting Hose 1 or not because the members voted for consolidation and the village then eliminated the old fire companies from being a part of munincipal fire protection transfering all those duties to the CFC. So, really, as being a fire company goes, Hose 1 is only a fire company to the extent that the name says Hose company. Just like Rug doctor isn't a doctor, Hose 1 isn't really a fire company anymore and neither is Hose 2 or Hose 5.

It is about going forward with consolidation. The fire companies are really consolidated but the names hinder the morale aspect of consolidation. If it takes getting rid of the old names than that is what we must do.

You have repeated again and again with threats and half truths by all participants on both sides. However, neither of you have provided any proof to the authorties or they would have taken action, Results count.

I have read this blog and yes it appears Hose 1 had problems. However, I have been told that Hose 2 had a fight in their fire house between two family and that was covered up. I also have been advised that Hose 5 had gasoline stolen and that was covered up and the rescue squad misplace $20,000 and no action was taken. So it appears all the disbanded Fire companies had problems. I point this out to the truth detective, and others, don't throw rocks in a glass house, it always break all the windows. Let's talk about the brawl of drunken firefighters inside the house of the FORMER Hose 2. A person was assulted and the entire incident was coved up. How about the viewing of adult movies everynight on the big screen TV? Not to mention the endless nights of drinking binges and driving the "slimer" to fires. Now who sounded like a bafoon on the radio? How about the time when the Hose 1 building was locked up by Dushane and Hose 2 members pulled the slimer out on Main St and started blairing the siren and cheering. Now that's intelligent. That was the smart thing to do. Close down a house with all the equipment needed for the district and village and depend on the Main St. companies to handle it.

How about some of the leaders that came out of Hose 2. Chico, Vollmer, Dushane, Diperna, Kzanjian. Where are they now? Not making it better. They let their community down by quitting! All because they didn't get their way. All because their house was sold and they no longer have a place to watch XXX movies and go on drinking binges all day.

How many Hose 2 members came to the new CFC? ONE...And what a waste he is. Only shows up once a month for a free meal and to copmlain. He's probally the head of the Truth Detectives.
Until proven though we'll never know. Soon they all will be unveiled and justice will be served to each and everyone.
How does a group of angry firefighters/citizens get away with all these false accuactions? Naming people as arsonists, thieves, assulters or what ever they claim. Why haven't these poeple come up with concrete evidence of such wrong doings? Because they don't have anything!!! All they have are lies, lies, lies, and more lies. These "Truth Detectives" are compulsive liers who need medical attention. They are sick people that live in our community. Predators.

You always come on this blog trying to commadere people away from the issues here. You come backto Seeing Greene because the masses are really here here participate in Dick Mays highly successfull Social Experiment.

I'm really starting to see the picture about you, your a go getter/quiter.

get the 49 mack out too.

Anonymous said...

I feel for you, because progress takes so long to move forward! I wish the books would be opened to day.

The accounts reviewed, the illegal transactions identified and revealed, the cover ups brought to light and the participants exposed and money recovered and returned to the ACTIVE firemen.

The Hose 2 fight was no different than any other scuffle, BUT the police did not respond and the Trustees did not pay off the DJ for having his teeth punched out and pay for expenses and a settlement as occurred at the Chewens Drunk Fest.

The antiques are a totally separate issue since they were paid for by the companies and should be turned over to the CFC.
A committee of Hose 1 members is assigned to the old 49 Mack and a committee of Hose 5 members are assigned to the 1939 Lefrance.
They technically already belong to the CFC much to the dismay of anti CFC forces.

The theft of gasoline occurred from the two antique trucks and could have been done by any fire department member or any member of the police department.

This is entirly different than the ETA 3-11 issue. That truck is against municipal law and does not have the proper insurance to protect the firemen or the community.

Since the Trustees reversed the order put out by Trustee Batagalino its hard to stop individuals who drive there vehicles into the fire house to wash them from stealing, water, gas, polish, soap , gasoline etc.

Anonymous said...

We never burned anything, we simply called the insurance company and played with the radios.

Its not our fault that the Town told our members that they would support us starting Willey Hose 1. We didn't steal the air bags because they belong to us. We just didn't want us to ruin the equipment supporting the village.

If the Village didn't touch our money everything would have been ok!

Anonymous said...

The air bag incident resulted in arrests. It isn't all lies something wrong happened. If the truth came out, would it be good for those involved? Why did Hose 1 demand that disciplinary action be ended against those involved? Like they said about Nixon, you don't give a pardon to the completely innocent.

Drinking and fighting is wrong but what is really wrong is that Hose 1 is keeping money that it received when it was an active fire company. This money should be turned over to the CFC.

Hose 1 insists that it keep ownership of 311 eventhough there is an insurance issue that puts the village at risk.

Hose 1 insists that 311 read Hose 1 eventhough they couldn't get the Hose 5 name and village of catskill off the other trucks quick enough without causing damage.

The Hose 1 name on things destroys morale and reminds everyone about how they were going to put village residents at risk by draining equipment and manpower froom the village starting their own town company where they would get to keep filling their bank account with town money.

WE NEED TO FINISH CONSOLIDATION

Mr. Ulscht you and Mr. Cotten would have been the democratic slate for this coming Village elections. You were asked repeatedly if you wanted to run for the trustee position. You said NO. If you had said yes even up till the last week or so of the end of January you would have had the democratic support (Democratic caucus was Feb. 1st. ). Instead you decided to go around secretly with your independent petition Jan. 24th. TURNCOAT?

You all sit here and bash the trustees (current & former) but they are the only ones that have the balls to put thier names to their posts. Which is a hell of alot more than any of you can say!

Anonymous said...

Come up with something new. The last few meassages repeat, repeat, repeat, old news, old news. what no comment about hose 2 & 5, other than fighting is wrong, must be true, where is the outrange? you were out ranged with the Chewins incident and reading the blogs it must of been serious or blow out of porportian. However, is there a double standard out there. It appears Hose one is still top dog, thats all you can talk about. give it up. put your best effort on the Catskill Fire Company, talk it up, you can work together. This is where it's at now and the future of the community and your company. You forgot your priorities.

Anonymous said...

The reason there is no outcry to the transgressions of 2 & 5 is because most if not all of the accusers are former 2 & 5 memembers. Isn't that right?

Anonymous said...

May be, but two wrong don't make it right.

It is wrong for the old companies to keep money. ALL companies should empty their bank accounts.

Anonymous said...

I don't remember either Hose 2 or Hose 5 wanting the town to start a fire company and neither Hose 2 or 5 were going to take manpower and equipment out of the village which would have put the village residents at risk over money going into a bank account.

This is what destroyed the Hose 1 reputation in the community.

It was a lack of judgment to allow a "private party" at the firehouse where alcohol was being served because it could make the village liable. With a trustee present, it would be hard to say that the village didn't condone or allow the "private party"

I just hope that the village learned that it was not a very bright idea to allow "private parties" on village property at the fire house where people can get drunk and cause problems. I think that the village rents the Beattie-powers estate but makes people get insurance if there is drinking. That wasn't done at this party was it?

stated any one caught would suffer sever penalties. Instead that member was told to drive home drunk
and nothing was done, except for putting peoples lives in danger by allowing a drunkin jerk to drive around the village! I aslo heard this member who is reported to be a board member of the cfc has been bragging around town that sgt. jacobs of the village police dept let him drive drunk after catching him drinking beer illegaly in his truck behind the firehouse. He also stated to people that vinney seely also was present and let him go because his brother was a board member and the cfc fire commish.

Is this true? Vinney if you were invloved you should step down for abuse of power! Can someone please answer if this is true or not?

That company showed that they cared about nothing about money and district chiefs when they pulled that stunt.

A name in shame. Hose 1 money and district chiefs are more important than the residents they were supposed to serve.

copy the fire company minutes here about the party for all of us to read.

Anonymous said...

Well posting the minutes would be a problem concerning the Chewens Drunk Fest.

Its very limited in scope and went something like this.

Former Hose 1 President/Capt Ed Collins stated that they stopped by the Fire House approximately 0100 am and discovered the fire trucks pulled out side of the building and drunken teenagers driving around the parking lot recklessly with kids on hoods etc. Collins was with one or two other firemen. They entered the building and discovered a full blown party with DJ etc. Teenagers were climbing on emergency vehicles etc.

Then President Overbaugh answered a question and admitted that the Chewens had not asked permission or obtained the normal paperwork to use the facility. No one admitted to giving the Chewens permission to have the party.

The President refused to answer anymore questions stating that the incident was under investigation and the fire comppany was advised not to discuss the situation because it would hamper the investigation (COVER UP).

There was an emergency special meeting called to deal with the Chewens Drunk Fest BUT the Catskill Fire Company Bi Laws were intentionally mis quoted by Vice President Rivenburg to prevent any discussion about the incident (Cover Up).

If three or more firemen object to the special meeting it has to be postponed.

Fire Commissioner Chewens, Catskill Fire Company Board member Rick Chewens, And CFC Board member Shultz all voted to stop the special meeting and prevent disciplinary action be implemented against the Chewens. (Cover Up).

Can you beleive that the accused perps were allowed to vote to prevent their own discipline!

It takes a well disciplined professional to make an on the spot identification of someone drunk. He has to appear drunk and their has to be evidence of the drinking. He was probally taking the emptys to cash them in. They certainly don't prove your therory.

He certainly was not intoxicated because he had only consumed 7 - 8 beers out of his 18 pack. Any one who knows him, know that he routinely consumes an 18 pack on a daily basis and is still not drunk. There for get your facts right and stop trying to burn innocent people!

Is this the same character who was referenced in the previous blogs for driving a fire truck to a call and forgetting to put on the emergency brake and place chocks under its wheels and was un aware of it rolling away?

This isn't the same guy who drove a fire truck to the Ney Years Eve fire at Post Brothers and had beer delivered to him at the scene?

And is he the same guy who hit Ormerod Sr's vehicle and gut a DWI/DUI or something after leaving the scene?

And this is the guy that was involved with his brother in the Chewens Drunk Fest?

He's probally the same guy I have seen numerous times drinking out of the back of his pick up truck in the fire company parking lot.

I wonder if he goes to work at the prison drunk to? What do they call that condition, a functional drunk?

As far as the your statement about the firemen who had several heart attacks and is now certified to drive and re-activated.

Now It appears you have become a doctor. That Firemen is probably in better shape than you are. He was certified medically and secondly, that person has volunteered his entire life to the fire service. We grew up together and I know his dedication to the fire service. You should be ashamed of yourself. I suspect you will have some more intelligent stupid remarks. However, the Facts are this person is medically certified by a real doctor, and is always availbale to serve the fire community. " Get a Life "

Three men are driving around, drinking beers and having a laugh when the driver looks in the mirror and sees the flashing lights of a police car telling him to pull over.
The other two are really worried. "What are we going to do with our beers? We're in trouble!"

"No," the driver says, "it's OK, just pull the label off your bottle and stick them on your foreheads, and the man pulls over.

The police officer then walks up and says, "You guys were swerving all around the road back there. Have you been drinking?"

"Oh, no, officer," says the driver, pointing to his forehead, "We're trying to give up, so we're on the patch."

Is the firehouse located at 1 central ave or 1 circus ave?

Last time I checked the village was running a 3 bay circus out of the firehouse. They boast it's family owned and operated.

This circus is complete with it's very own bozo the clown, freak show featuring black tooth the slack jawed yokel, stinky the garbage man and the neckless wonder.

Forrest gump will give firehouse wisdom, "firehouse is like a box of chocolates, you never know what your going to get!"

Followed by a modified high wire act featuring a death defying walk up an uncertified, outdated aerial
device, complete with outdate harnesses and no safety nets.

o-my-god the ring leader with help from kermit the frog circus announcer will set the tone for the magnificent 5 airbag disappearing act.

It's also reported to have guest appearances by, Tommy boy the alcoholic,Mr. potato head, and the black booted storm trooper "bk"
who will instruct the proper dance steps to the chicken dance.

music will be provided by dj toothless.

The father and son duo "we'll never have a title" will be set up out side for your dunking booth pleasures.

I'm so smart will juggle wrenches instead of balls in the third bay.

Free O'Doul's will be handed out at the bar. Labatt blue will be given to all children free with admission.

All activities are concluded with a raffle for owner ship of eta 3-11!

WHEN YOU HAVE A MONOPOLY ..
I was late in paying my Mid-Hudson cable bill (although I have two other Mid-Hudson accounts). They interrupted my service in the evening, 2/13. Earlier when I came home there was a message from Mid-Hudson, asking me to call back. I tried to do so on three occasions, each time with a sustained delay .. and no pick up from a 'living' voice.
I drove to their office in Jefferson Heights. A courteous receptionist said my service had been interrupted. She informed me that their policy these days is to not send any notice of pending interruption, or termination .. as they did in the past, just a phone call. I paid my overdue bill. At this time, my aggregate payments to Mid-Hudson are in the $1,500/1,600 range a year, a hefty expense. Whatever happened to 'competition' by service vendors?
Anybody else have adverse experiences with Mid-Hudson, would like to hear about it.

Once again the fire company members were lied to and led astray!

$20,000 -25,000.00 was an intentional misquote from the biggest FIBBER (POLITE WAY OF SAYING LIER) that ever stood before you!

Was it intentional so he could have it his way?

What representatives of our fire house and law enforcement community!

The firE ecompany excepted the color because our fearless Chief and President stated it was what we wanted the unsusspecting members made a tough decission because they thought it would save the over burdened tax payers the additional 20-25k on an already over priced truck!.

Little did they know the truck color could have been selected up to and til the final paper work was signed. Which according to the Marion Representative did not occur until Friday the tenth of Feburary (four days after the membership was lied to about the 20 -25,000.oo cost to change the color of the truck.

MARION stated that they offered to postpone the signing of the contract if their was still question concerning the final color.

Luckily they said there was still time to change the color if the Village Board contacted them.

what really brings a smile is that Chewens and Cotten will surely get re-elected when thoughtful, intelligent people (most voters) look at the opinions (and stumbling thoughts and typing fingers) of the "cowboys" who are posting here....keep it up, boys...no sensible person wants to emulate you...

To stop consolidation.

I called Marion and discovered a little known fact concerning the new rescue truck.

LIES, LIES, LIES, SAME OL, SAME OL

Once again the fire company members were lied to and led astray!

$20,000 -25,000.00 was an intentional misquote from the biggest FIBBER (POLITE WAY OF SAYING LIAR) that ever stood before you!

Was it intentional so he could have it his way?

What representatives of our fire house and law enforcement community!

The fire company excepted the color because our fearless Chief and President stated it was what we wanted the unsuspecting members made a tough decision because they thought it would save the over burdened tax payers the additional 20-25k on an already over priced truck!.

Little did they know the truck color could have been selected up to and til the final paper work was signed. Which according to the Marion Representative did not occur until Friday the tenth of February (four days after the membership was lied to about the 20 -25,000.oo cost to change the color of the truck.

MARION stated that they offered to postpone the signing of the contract if their was still question concerning the final color.

Luckily they said there was still time to change the color if the Village Board contacted them.

WHAT DO YOU SAY VILLAGE TRUSTEES,

HOW ABOUT SHOWING SOME LEADERSHIP AND CHANGING THIS INTENTIONAL wrong doing OF ONE MISFIT AND DO WHAT,S RIGHT.

ONE MORE REASON TO VOTE FOR CHANGE AND VOTE CHEWENS OUT OF OFFICE!

This is great,

I decided to take your advice and change my erring ways even if it presents me as a shrewed.

I'm willing to do anything, especially if it will really help the cause.

Thanks you Mr "I got my nose in the air", I'm going to personally go through the entire collection of blogs and correct the spelling on every single blog that has been written over the course of the last six months. Even ones I didn't write.

I need the practice and I'm sure you'll want to critique them again. So be patient as I re-post everyone of the blogs I correctted.

Thank you so much for making me as perfect as you.

PS: I bet the masses come to read what we have to say; regardless of our bad grammar and misspellings.

And I'd bet that they couldn't care less about your arrogant shit!

Oh Here I go again, trying to be
perrfect is really hard! How do you do it anyway?

By the way spelt is a food substance formed like noodles and made of spelt instead of wheat and was a food source found in the bible.

But I'm sure you were really seeing if I knew what SPELT meant!

While China encourages use of the Internet for business and education, it strictly monitors the Web and censors anything it considers critical or a threat to the ruling Communist Party.

The Catskill Village and Town Boards, Hose one, Hose 2, Hose 5, the Catskill Fire Company, The Catskill Police Department, Greene County Sheriffs Department, NY State Police Catskill, would all love to shut this site down.

Its exposed many hypocritical things that they don't want you the tax payers to know about.

Lawyers phones have rung off the hook, and many of them are scurrying through the law books hoping to find anything to stop the meltdown.

Please get out and vote down Chewens the poster child for abuse of power, and insist that the hypocrisy stop. Why should these individuals feel that they are freely above the law? Why should they get away with their abuse of power simply because they are an official or wear a badge!

The Communists elite thought they were above their constituents which they imposed their stiff rules.

Like wise our elected officials feel that they are better than the rest of us GreeneLanders, they feel that they don't have to live by the same rules that they impose on us.

Vinnie wont let us keep unregistered vehicles on our property while he had 4-5 on his (double standard),

Vinnie wants to have the village and town assessments reevaluated because he is paying higher taxes than the older residences are assessed for. I bet his property is not assessed for the amount he claimed on this blog that they were worth.

Vinnie wont allow me to use a Village Back hoe to install my septic tank, but he used the Village of Catskill Thermo Weld Machine to install his private water main on his property!

The Fire Commissioner has personally destroyed the fire department by mismanagement and poor leadership! The Departments response times and turn out is incredibly low because of a conspiracy with his Chiefs.

They has routinely covered up alcohol abuse in the fire department. Especially the numerous alcohol related incidents concerning his brother. He conspired to cover up the Chewens Drunk Fest, The assault on the DJ, the medical costs, the settlement!

Wheres the out cry that the party was for and attended by NY State Corrections Officers who were probably not even Village Residents? Or even worse than that is that alcohol was freely given to under-aged teenagers. This isn't the 60's and 70's. Its against the law and look who got away with it, the law.

Remember get out and vote no against Chewens! We need to take back our Village and Town one step at a time!

All the above should be setting the higher standard for all of us to thrive for. Instead they seem to only care about gaining the social, financial, or stiff arm protection benefits that they seem to freely enjoy because of their positions!.

Viva the Village of Catskill,
Viva the Town of Catskill,
Viva the Catskill Fire Company,
Viva Greeneland!
Viva the TAX PAYERS!

5:24 Blog Wipe the Shit off of your nose!

Your arrogance lacks the magnitude to draw in the masses and gets very little response compared to the jokes, rumors, inuendos and actual facts exposed here. A little of everything for the masses!

Give me an address and I'll give you the tax assessment. If you don't believe me, give me your address and I'll tell you your assessment.
